EUROpean Nuclear Structure - Integrated Infrastructure Initiative I3

(Contract number 506065)

CRC database report

A European Large Scale Facility since 1996

Since October 1996, the Cyclotron Research Centre is a Large Scale Facility supported by the European Commission. Some statistics concerning the previous EC contract within the Framework Program 5 (2000-2003) can be found here. A new EC contract in the framework of the Integrating Activities implemented as an Integrated Infrastructure Initiative has started in January 2005.

The project is called EURONS (EUROpean Nuclear Structure), and it includes 8 Networks, 11 Joint Research Activities and the Transational Access to the world-class facilities UCL-CRC (B), ECT* (EUR), GANIL (F), GSI (D), CERN-ISOLDE (EUR), JYU-JYFL (FIN), RUG-KVI (NL), INFN-LNL (I), which constitute the backbone of EURONS.

Within EURONS, more than 44 institutions from 21 European countries represent the nuclear physics community at large and within an equal opportunity structure. EURONS builds on a successful and rich tradition of interplay between theory and experiment, and universities and large-scale infrastructures and continues collaborative European research actions which already were initiated and recognised during preceding framework programs.

Information for users: how to apply for EURONS support

You will find IMPORTANT INFORMATION below, please read it first before contacting the CRC

CONDITIONS for Reimbursement of travel and living expenses

The EURONS contract enables the CRC to cover part of the cost for beam time and to reimburse the travel and living expenses of researchers coming to carry out experiments if:

WHAT kind of support

The financial contribution covers completely the beam time and (partly or completly) both living expenses (35 € per day) and housing expenses. The travel expenses can be also covered on the basis of the travel tickets.
Researchers are usually lodged at LE RELAIS hotel (if rooms available) in the Louvain-la-Neuve center (10 min. by foot to the CRC). Otherwise, they are lodged at the hotel Mercure (also at walking distance to the CRC) or if no room available in Louvain-la-Neuve, at hotels in Wavre (a car is neded). Notice that to assure a hotel reservation, preferably at Louvain-la-Neuve, the spokespersons of the experiments are kindly requested to contact the CRC Secretary, Mme Carine Baras at least two months before the arrival.

Double financing (from the EURONS contract and from the home institution) is not allowed.

APPLICATION for EURONS financial support

The European researchers eligible for support in the framework of the above-mentioned contract are kindly invited to submit a an application form (click on the link here) and send it by e-mail to C. Baras at least two months before coming for an experiment to the CRC. Please, fill all the information on the document. Very important is to write in the user group the actual participants in the experiment, because only those whose names appear in this form can apply for EURONS support.

After receiving the document, the ''acces provider" (CRC/UCL) will allocate travel and living expenses to eligible participants. The spokesperson is informed of the decision within about 1 week.

WHAT to do at the arrival at the CRC

Each participant of the experiment mentioned in the application form must come to the CRC Secretariat (Mme. Carine Baras) with:

  1. the travel tickets

  2. a medical attestation certifying that he/she is allowed to work in controlled areas. For dosimeters, please fill up the form here BEFORE your arrival at Louvain-la-Neuve.

  3. an attestation from his/her institution certifying that he/she did not get any support from his/her laboratory for this mission

  4. the address and SWIFT code of his/her bank account

The payment will be done by bank transfer.

WHAT to do after the stay at the CRC

To enable the EURONS programme management to monitor and improve the programme, each Group Leader of a project supported by the EURONS Programme is requested to:

  1. Fill on-line a questionnaire at http://www.cordis.lu/infrastructures/questionnaire.htm.
  2. Keep the CRC informed of all the publications referred above.
Publication procedure:
Financial support from the EC via EURONS should be acknowledged in all publications resulting from EURONS activities using:
- "This work was supported by the European Commission within the Sixth Framework Programme through I3-EURONS (contract no. RII3-CT-2004-506065)".
- or the short version: "Supported through EURONS (European Commission contract no. 506065)"
Publications (and manuscripts) should be sent to the activity coordinator (who needs this information for his/her reporting) and should be linked on this webpage.

Notice that no reimbursement will be done if any of the above mentioned conditions are not fulfilled.
